Dave Chandler, Colorado candidate for U.S. House of Representatives for the 7th Congressional District, takes a principled stand on the Bush deficits and taxes.
Dave told Republican Rick O'Donnell in the KBDI-TV debate that balancing the federal budget is not just a 'spending' problem -- all strategies must be placed on the table -- including increasing revenue.
Dave does indeed support repeal of the Bush/Cheney tax give-aways for the wealthy elites -- because they are not paying their fair share.
Of course, the corporate Republicans always whine that making the top one percent start accepting their fair share of the tax burden is "raising taxes" on everyone.
"Enough of the demogaguery," says Dave. "The trillions of dollars of federal debt accumulated by Bush and the Republican Congress amounts to a 'birth tax' on our children and grandchildren who are going to be left with paying for this fiscal recklessness. It is time to get the federal budget in order with the right priorities."So, Dave supports real tax reform that reduces taxes on middle class and working class Americans.
Here is what Dave Chandler supports:
"A real tax cut for middle Americans and the working poor.Average middle class Americans need a REAL tax cut. The few crumbs thrown to ordinary workers by Bush and the Democrats was merely a fig leaf for huge tax breaks for the very wealthy. Only a representative from a political party that refuses to accept PAC and big special interest campaign contributions will be free enough to do what is right for ALL the people.
In his June 22, 2002, Colorado Green Party state convention speech, Dave said that we need this kind of new thinking on taxes:
"... I would propose a progressive flat tax ... with a substantial increase in the standard deduction -- so that the working poor and average families pay only a fair and equitable federal income tax. It is time for new ideas, and a new debate about a fairer and simpler system of taxation that benefits most Americans and stops coddling the super wealthy."
Dave would like to start the debate and free-flow of new ideas on taxes by putting forth one possible progressive flat tax plan. It would be composed of these elements similar to these:
+ Raise the standard deduction to $25,000 per adult. The important thing is to start the debate on a fairer, simpler tax system that stops giving all the advantages to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of middle class workers."
+ All income over $50,000 per family taxed as 35 percent.
+ Treat all income the same. It is not the business of the federal government to infer that one kind of income is superior to another kind. Income from the sale of stock should be taxed just the same as the wages of a plumber, electrician, cab driver, waitress, doctor, nurse, computer analyst, etc.Perhaps you think the flat tax rate is too high? Or perhaps there should be a graduated flat rate as incomes get higher, for instance 15 percent on income from $50,000 to $75,000; 20 percent from 76,000 to $125,000; 25% from $126,000 to $200,000; and so on with some final rate on the highest incomes.
Democrats and Republicans will hem-and-haw about taxes and the federal debt. They simply do not want to confront the facts and tell the plain truth.
Most politicians will try and tell you that we can solve all of our problems with little of no discomfort for anyone. But the truth is that six years of federal fiscal irresponsibility and recklessness has left our nation with a vast ocean of red ink. The truth is that the millionaries and billionaires in our country are going to have to pay more taxes. That is the first step in repealing the 'birth tax'.
Dave Chandler, free from the influence of campaign contributions of special interests, will propose innovative ideas in Congress to help get our federal financial house back in order -- and provide tax relief to hard working Americans.
