As readers of my essays on education know, I am in favor of local control of education. It is my deeply held belief that the people closest to our children -- parents, guardians, relatives and neighbors -- ultimately know what is best for them.
Consequently, the notion that "one size fits all" (and the national education standards movement means ALL) is antithetical to my beliefs about learning.
Here is a new web site that discusses and encourages action to resist the imposition of national standards on our community schools by Washington politicians and professional educrats.
For the sake of learning and real education, I encourage those charged with the responsibility of preparing the next generation for building the future of our nation and world to become informed about the dangers of high stakes testing and national standards -- this web site is a place to start.
